Nick Johnson to become a Marlin?

From MLBTradeRumors:

ESPN’s Peter Gammons reports that the Marlins “appear to be moving closer” to a Nick Johnson trade. Last we heard, the Fish offered pitcher Ryan Tucker to the Nationals and asked Washington to pay part of Johnson’s contract (he has $2MM remaining). At the same time, Danny Knobler of CBSSports says the Marlins are growing frustrated with the trade talks and may move on.

Analysis to come if it happens. Needless to say, we may finally see an end to the BoniLine!

UPDATE: Joe Frisaro tweets that the Marlins might not finish a deal before the deadline is through.

DOUBLE UPDATE: Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi report that the Marlins are no longer pursuing Heath Bell or Nick Johnson.

TRIPLE UPDATE: According to FOX, the Marlins have indeed acquired Nick Johnson in return for Double-A lefty Aaron Thompson. In addition, the Nationals are paying the remainder of Johnson’s salary this season. Not bad, definitely does improve us, but as we all know, it’s going to take a decent amount to improve the Marlins enough to win the Wild Card.

I would love to see it if Boni could head for the bench as a result…..only thing is Cantu isn’t exactly stellar at third base, but we need a bat that could get on-base, and that is a skill that N. Johnson has proven perennially.

michael, i’m excited man, I can’t help it!! I’m catching wild card fever and maybe at the end of this i’m gonna look like a sucker but whatever man……so we took our magic wand out and turned Boni into Amezaga, so now we don’t have to see him lead the NL in outs anymore lol….we have Nick Johnson and the sexy .400 obp batting 2nd…..our starters are performing, I was especially very happy with Vandenhurk’s start on thursday against Atlanta…..I really think we’re just good enough to win the wild-card…..I would venture to say that we could beat all the teams in front of us (counting on St. Louis to take their division)….that leaves San Fran, Colorado, and Chicago…..San Fran being the best of those 3…..I really think they can do this!!
