Nny,

Totally agree. I've heard good things about Gaby's defense at first. The use of projections with the numbers is to combat the small sample size of his work (only one large amount of opportunities in the minors, in '08). Gotta take all fielding data with a bit of a grain of salt.

Nevertheless, I would not be surprised to see him as a +3 / 150 games fielder. I think that's what the scouts are probably seeing. We could do worse than that at first, I presume.

One thing to remember about Gaby and defense is that he continued to improve along the way.

It's not just a "number" thing either of small sample size. Scouts said he was horrible defensively when he was drafted and in '06 (Numbers back that up). After '07, they said he improved to being average at best (Numbers back that up). In '08, they said he improved even more to being an above average 1b, and he won the GG for the SOU league although that likely doesn't mean much (Numbers back that up).

So it's a case of both scouting and numbers that say he's a lot better than he was in '06 and '07.

Moti,

Starting a business would be nice, but I'm afraid I've never been the entrepreneur type. This has been as close as I have gotten to creating anything worth selling, heh.

Blalock I think is interesting. The team would be using him as a platoon partner only, so in a pinch Sanchez could take over. Alas, I don't think the Marlins would be looking at any of these choices. I suspect the team will likely just resign Gload. We'll have to see, I'm very excited as well.

Michael,

I can relate to the whole “getting a job after college” problem. I am graduating in December and I do not see myself getting hired anytime soon. I did start a business though, maybe that can be an option for you bro. In the meantime, keep the posts coming! Haha

I am all for giving Gaby a chance to platoon. Hank Blalock would be a perfect signing in my opinion. If he comes at a “reasonable” price (2-3 mil), the marlins should be all over him. Then again, we did not sign Abreu for 5 mil. The speculation and wait is killing me, I want to see what the team is going to do.
