Congratulations to Hanley Ramirez, 2nd in the NL MVP!

It wasn’t likely Hanley Ramirez (or anyone really, regardless of how I voted) was going to beat out Albert Pujols for National League MVP, but I’ll take a second place finish any day. That’s how it happened. Congratulations to Hanley on an awesome season and a great accomplishment. Congratulations also to Albert Pujols, who is one of the best hitters I’ve ever seen.

One tiny (but significant note): what the hell is it going to take to get Chase Utley some recognition? He is likely the best second baseman in baseball defensively, most assuredly the best second baseman offensively, and he happens to just do everything else right too! Why is it that Ryan Howard keeps getting all this credit that Utley deserves? By my measure, Utley and Pujols actually came in tied in terms of production (this of course after counting defense from UZR and baserunning from EqBRR). It’s absurd that the man ended 8th behind Prince Fielder, Troy Tulowitzki, and (ugh) Andre Ethier. Ethier even had a lower OPS than Utely, not even counting the large gap in their defense. When will they ever learn?
