Agreed. If he gets B status, there’s a good shot someone will sign him. But is that and his play worth $2.75M (or whatever it is he’s making)? I’m not sure about that part. And if he does accept arb, I think he’d essentially be a salary dump for the Jays. I’m not so sure it was wise ultimately.

The issue is, you’d then have to offer him arbitration, so that’s a big gamble.

I think they should have spent that money elsewhere, but I still think it’s a decent enough gamble to take. They’re hoping 2.75 mil gets them 60 IPish of average relief innings and a sandwich pick.

Good luck with Gregg. I sincerely hope that, since you guys have a good number of bullpen options, that Gregg gets average leverage, seventh inning type work. He just isn’t that good of a pitcher. And if he happens to get Type A status, I doubt anyone would sign him off your hands. I’m not understanding the deal from the Jays standpoint either.

I’ll be getting to this in today’s piece, but I would like to mention that there is almost no shot that Branyan plays third base for the Marlins. He hasn’t played there in a while, and when he has, he hasn’t been very good. So if he comes by and wins a job from Gaby, it would for first base. More terrible defense at third from Cantu, please!
