We definitely have issues in the upper minors. If/when Uggla and Cody get traded after this season, we need to focus on getting near-ready SP in return. Jhan Marinez is the big name in the upper minors (As I assume he starts the year in AA), but he gives up far too many FB's for me to be too hopeful of him.

I really like Brad Hand's combo of ground balls and strike outs in the lower minors, but he's really the only name. His expected destination as of now is that of a mid-rotation starter, hopefully he learns control and could become a top of the rotation guy. Kyle Kaminiska could also end up being a mid-rotation starter, but as of now should be expected to be a back of the rotation guy if he makes it.

The good news is, is that we have a very high amount of guys in the short season leagues with high upside. To name a few: Edgar Olmos (3rd round, 2008), Curtis Petersen (4th round, 2008), Blake Brewer (11th round, 2008), Daniel Gil (Foreign Signee), Michael Joseph (Foreign Signee). They need time in full season league before they are really worth mentioning, but the hope is that at least one of them can break out going forward. And of coarse also 2009 draftees Chad James (1st round) and Bryan Berglund (2nd round), who are both the highest regarded of the bunch but have yet to make a pro pitch. It'll be interesting to see where everyone starts next year, especially James and Berglund (Do they go strait to full season ball or hang around extended spring training until short season time?)

Great post John. Very informative. It doesn't seem like we have too many exciting arms on the way up. Overall, how would you assess the Marlins minor league pitching depth?
