OOTP Simulator Season #1: Managing Foibles
As part of a promotion, I received a copy of OOTP 11 to preview, and they asked me to run a simulated season and record the results. I wanted to do this multiple times in order to get a decent average number of wins, but unfortunately I’ve yet to find that sort of capability on OOTP. Nevertheless, I wanted to see how the results of 2010 would pan out and how the Marlins would fare in the simulated year. What follows are the interested results of the first OOTP Simulated Season attempt!
A quick Chris Leroux breakdown
So one day after posting that he’d be bullpen help on the way, now here he is. Chris Leroux was the Marlins 12th pick (9 pitcher) in the 2005 draft, being picked up in the 7th round. During his senior year in college, he had to go through Tommy John Surgery, and the Marlins have been very careful with him since. While the rule has since been lifted, the FO originally mandated a rule that he could not pitch unless he had two days rest. And even with the rule lifted, he still does not go back-to-back often at all. [...]
Feeling good about Gaby
OK, it’s early in the season. I will never say that a player is “the real deal” or “awful” after 23 plate appearances. You and I both know that that is simply irresponsible. But if you felt a little jittery about Gaby Sanchez (as I did) going into the season, his start has certainly been encouraging. Sanchez is batting .250/.379/.500, good for a .372 wOBA. Now, none of that is going to stick by the end of the year. It’s highly unlikely that Sanchez is as good as he is right now. But we do know a little bit about [...]
Fish Bites
Late afternoon Fish Bites coming to you as I just return from work. – Let’s start off with tonight’s game versus the Cincinnati Reds. The Fish lost a heartbreaker 6-5 last night after an uncharacteristically poor outing for Ricky Nolasco. Tonight, Nate Robertson takes the hill for the second time as a Marlin, facing Bronson Arroyo. – Chris Coghlan doesn’t mind answering questions about his slump. Good for Chris, I’m not concerned either. Here’s the money quote: “For me, it’s just the first six games,” he said. “I’m not worried. I do want to perform and I know its going [...]
Who to watch for: New Orleans Zephyrs
MLB wasn’t the only league to start their season this month, as the minor leagues are now going strong themselves. Now that rosters are in place for those teams, I’m going to go through each and point out some names to keep an eye on if you ever check those box scores. And at the end of the month, I’ll be doing a monthly wrap up. First up is our Triple A Affilliate, the New Orleans Zephyrs. They are located in the Pacific Coast League, a notorious hitters league. But they’re also in American division. The Pacific division holds most [...]

Fish Cap: Marlins Deal Twin Comebacks vs. Dodgers
The Marlins took two of three from the Los Angeles Dodgers over the weekend, though no one would say those wins were of a convincing fashion. The Fish took two close games on clutch comebacks while losing a blowout Game 1. It is these sorts of series that give the Marlins the middling run differentials they always seem to have at the end of the year. Whether they played well enough to earn two out of three wins is for the viewer to decide. Series Hero: Jorge Cantu (.475 WPA) Series Zero: Dan Uggla (-.245 WPA) Impressed By: Gaby Sanchez [...]
Programming Note
I will not be available for much of today, as I am starting a full-time job in the mornings through the afternoons. With the job, expect a lot more articles at night than during the daytime hours. I’ll keep you all informed of any more changes. Thanks.

Fish-Cap: Marlins Take Two from Mets
The Marlins finished off what started as an extremely rocky series against the New York Mets with a relatively smooth finish, winning 3-1 last night against the Mets. After the turmoil with which the series began, Nate Robertson and Burke Badenhop thankfully gave us something to relax about (though Leo Nunez tried to keep us on our toes in the late innings with an almost-HR). Let’s look at the overview of the series. Series Hero (Most WPA): Jorge Cantu (0.26 WPA) Series Goat (Least WPA): Josh Johnson and Chris Coghlan (-0.14 WPA) Impressed by: Gaby Sanchez (4/12, 3 2B, 1 [...]
