JoeA,

Everyone's really getting excited about him, but they're ignoring his flaws. He definitely still has flaws.

But here's the thing about the whole "rushing prospects" thing: you can never tell who's going to struggle and who isn't. Jason Heyward could have crapped out for 100 PA and been sent back, and we would say "They rushed him." He's hitting like crazy now and they're saying "They made the right call." It's all revisionist. I'd love to see the research be done, but I can't begin to think of how to do it. If you'll recall, I did a little bit of that, but I think that work had some strong bias that would be hard to overcome.

Aramgh,

I'm no expert on prospects either, so I would not really know. I don't know how disappointing it is to strikeout or go 0-for-20 in the majors, and I certainly don't know how Mike Stanton feels about that.

That's part of the problem with the business of breaking down callups. We can say he's ready all we want, but we don't really know. In my opinion, he could probably use some time in Triple-A, like Maybin had last year, but that's just the conservative me talking. Who knows if he's truly ready for the majors? My guess is he doesn't come out guns blazing, and he takes it like he would normally take it. Seeing pitches to hit I presume will help him become a better hitter and develop a better eye, but some guys never really get there. We'll see in a few months, right?

Thank you for being a voice of reason Michael. I couldn't agree with you more. I am tired of both local and national media labeling the Marlins and Nats "cheap" for not promoting both Stanton and Strasburg. For every Jason Heyward there are tons of prospects who's careers have suffered from being rushed to the majors. In fact there are a couple of examples in our organization right now, in my opinion. Anyway, avoiding super two by waiting to bring up a prospect who is not going to lead you to the promised land all by his lonesome, is not only not "cheap", but is very smart in my book.

I agree with you we need to tamper our immediate expectations should he be promoted. I think the most important thing for Stanton though is furthering his development. I keep reading that a lot of AA pitchers aren't really challenging him, his huge jump in walks sorta proves this. I'm no expert in the best ways to develop prospects, but it seems to me that this can't really be helping. I was wondering what your thoughts were that calling him up would be best for both him and the team. To me, it would be worth it long term (esp. if Maybin and/or Coghlan keep this up or if for some reason there's a decent offer out there for Cody) to call him up and have pitchers consistently trying to get him out.
