Fish Cap: Marlins pitching shines in Houston sweep
There is no doubt that the Marlins needed their sweep of the Houston Astros to get back on their feet after suffering through the previous month. The series wins versus the Texas Rangers and Oakland Athletics were nice, but the four-game sweep of the Astros was really helpful to the club’s chances of climbing back up to a .500 record. The Fish are a good enough team that they should have had a decent chance to sweep a club like Houston, so it was good to see them “beat the bad teams,” so to speak. Marlin Maniac Live Chat, Houston Astros
When the season is going as badly as it has been for the Marlins, you take any sort of solace you can get. Thanks to that awful June slump, the Fish are out of the playoff hunt and are merely playing the season out to test out the pieces they have and remain respectable along the way. That’s why, despite an ugly 14-2 loss that included its fair share of controversy, I claim that the Marlins did not play terribly in this series loss to the Philadelphia Phillies. Sure, it could have been much better, but the team could afford [...]
The Florida Marlins trading deadline primer
With the Marlins well out of contention and the month of July rolling in, there are only two serious discussion points to be had: 1) How will the Marlins youngsters develop as the season progresses into the second half? 2) Will the team begin “selling” for the upcoming trade deadline, and who will be available? The first one is something we might look into a little bit more in future posts, but right now I wanted to go immediately into addressing the trade deadline basics for the Florida Marlins in the 2011 season. The team has not performed well thanks [...]
Series Preview: Philadelphia Phillies
Yes, it’s finally July, and the Marlins are off to a 2-1 start to the month! Hopefully they can keep it going, but they will have to do it versus the toughest team in the National League this season in the Philadelphia Phillies. I know, I hate them too. After one of the worst months in the history of baseball, the Marlins needed a nice solid set of victories against the Texas Rangers to really kickstart what will hopefully be a somewhat successful July. The team did just that by taking two of three from the Rangers at Arlington, an impressive feat given the fact that Texas leads their respective division and the Marlins did the deed with their offense leading the way.
