Marlins Off-Season Updates
By Ehsan Kassim
What a busy day we had yesterday. Let’s go ahead and catch up on some Miami (Florida) Marlins off-season updates:
- The day began with news that Cuban defect center fielder Yoenis Cespedes is expected to be cleared for free agency within a matter of weeks. With that came news from an update from Juan C. Rodriguez of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel that the Marlins are the early front runners for his services. The Marlins are expected to visit the Dominican Republic for a private workout with Cespedes.
- Then we got the news from a New York based radio station that the Marlins have made a contract offer to Jose Reyes and that the Marlins have a meeting set up with him. Ken Rosenthal later confirmed the Jose Reyes meeting is on Wednesday and the Marlins are meeting with Mark Buehrle on Tuesday. Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reported that the Marlins met with Reyes’ agent as soon as free agency began.
- Jerry Crasnick then reported on twitter that the Marlins indeed have been in contact with Reyes’ representative, Peter Greenberg. Crasnick also said the Marlins still have Prince Fielder and Albert Pujols on their radar. Crasnick also mentioned the Marlins have a logjam at first with Gaby Sanchez there and them wanting to move Logan Morrison out of left field.
- John Heyman reported that Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen has been pushing for either Pujols or Fielder.
That is all the news I have for you from yesterday. The Marlins off-season looks like is underway. Expect the Marlins to be extremely active over the next few weeks of the off-season. Will have another update on Friday.
