Marlins’ Rule V candidate preview
On Friday all 30 MLB teams have to set their 40-man roster for the Rule V draft that takes place next month. The Marlins’ roster currently stands at 35, which means they have five spots open to protect their players from the Rule V draft. For this year’s draft, teams have to protect high school players drafted in 2007 and college players from the 2008 draft. For the Marlins, there are two locks- right-handed pitcher Tom Koehler and lefty reliever Dan Jennings. After that it is not as clean-cut. There are “four” other players that are candidates to be added [...]
Marlins really going all out for Free Agents?
Last Friday, Albert Pujols visited with the Florida Marlins before they became the Miami Marlins. It was rumored that the Marlins made a contract offer to Pujols. Details have not emerged about that deal. Well maybe until now. Yahoo’s Tim Brown is reporting that the Marlins offer to Pujols is believed to be for nine years. Brown estimates that the deal is worth at least $25 million a year. That would put a potential deal at 9-years and $225 million. Brown speculates that this maybe the best offer Pujols may receive. The St. Louis Cardinals in the off-season were believed to have offered [...]
Hanley upset at potential position change?
The buzz this off-season has been that the Miami Marlins will make a hard run at Jose Reyes and Hanley Ramirez would be more than accommodating to move to third base. It was perfect fit. Reyes and Ramirez are close friends, they would make a great left side of the infield and make the Marlins offense extremely productive. Eh, guess not. Last night on Twitter, Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald revealed some shocking news. This is extremely contrary to what we have been hearing for a while now. We have heard that the Marlins and Ramirez are set to move him [...]
What to expect at the Winter Meetings in Milwaukee
The annual General Managers meetings are set to take place in Milwaukee starting tomorrow, Tuesday, November 15th and continue till Wednesday, November 16th. Not a lot of moves are generally made at the GM meetings, but the groundwork for future trades and moves are often laid out. Last season, the Marlins struck quickly at the GM meetings. The Marlins agreed to send Dan Uggla to the Atlanta Braves for Omar Infante and Mike Dunn. The Marlins then used some of the money that had recently been tied down to Uggla to go out and sign catcher John Buck. The Marlins [...]
What Jose Reyes can bring to this team
Editor’s note: More excitement announce. We are about to debut two new authors here at Marlin Maniac today. First off, we have Will Stanifer. Will is a diehard Marlins fan and even has a blood relation to a former Marlin. Who is that? Read his post to find out. Hello my fellow marlin maniacs! My name is Will Stanifer and I am new to this site. Just hired, I look to bring opinions and views from a young but experienced fan. While I am just 19, I have been obsessed with the Marlins ever since the 1997 championship team. My uncle, Rob [...]
In praise of “I’ll believe it when I see it”
Editor’s note: More excitement announce. We are about to debut two new authors here at Marlin Maniac today. First off, we have Cory Eucalitto. Cory is new to sports blogging and this will be his first chance to get a crack at it. Please give him a big MarlinManiac welcome! Hello, readers. This is my first post here at Marlin Maniac, and in fact my first as a sports blogger entirely. Go easy on me. With the unveiling of some surprisingly snazzy uniforms (check out the review from SCWS over at Marlins Daily for the best breakdown you’ll find online), [...]
Uni Watch grades Marlins new jerseys
Over on uni-watch.com, Phil Hecken took a look at the Miami Marlins new jersey’s and gave them a grade. Here is a quick look at the uniforms one more time before I show you what grade Phil gave the Marlins uniform. Overall, I’d give the uniforms a B+. Not because they’re great, but because they’re much more reflective of South Florida — the boldly colored “M” and wordmark are certainly unique without being completely overboard, and even though I hate softball tops, I hope to see that orange alt as often as possible next season. Good job, Miami Miamis, you’ve done [...]
Loria confirms offer, Samson denies
The Miami Marlins’ anticipated 11.11.11 unveiling has come and passed. Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria stood at the podium Friday night and made sure that people in the audience and watching on Marlins.com that they are no longer the Florida Marlins. That team does not exist, even going as far as throwing a now old Marlins hat. He put much emphasis on the “Miami” Marlins, drilling it into people’s brain. In a somewhat unorthodox move, the new primary home jersey will have “Miami” across the front. Normally, home teams have their team nicknames instead of the city they are from; this [...]
As a Miami Marlins fan I am freaking out here. No way can this be happening. Can it? Well, according to Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post, the Marlins maybe ready to sign all 3, well, they are not ruling out the possibility just yet. This is mere speculation, but this is what that potential team could look like: Lineup: Jose Reyes SS Emilio Bonifacio CF Hanley Ramirez 3B Albert Pujols 1B Logan Morrison LF Mike Stanton RF Omar Infante 2B John Buck Pitching Rotation: Josh Johnson Mark Buehrle Anibal Sanchez Ricky Nolasco Chris Volstad There is no way [...]
Marlins New Uniforms
Have to give props to SoFlaMarlins for digging these uniforms leaks out. Here’s a look at the uniforms: And these were the home uniforms that were leaked last night: I personally am really liking the uniforms. They are new and not something that is really in baseball right now. I like the Marlins advanced thinking. The jersey’s look good but a lot of people will bash them because A.They bash everything the Marlins Front Office does, B.People do not like change, and C.They just do not like them. Let me hear what you guys think of them.
