The Miami Marlins have traded right-handed pitcher Burke Badenhop to the Tampa Bay Rays for minor league catcher Jacob Jefferies. Badenhop, 28, is arbitration-eligible for the first time and was projected to make $1.1 million this upcoming season. The Ohio native was the last piece that the Marlins had left from the Miguel Cabrera trade four years ago.
The 24-year-old Jefferies was a 2008 third rounder by the Rays and spent a majority of 2011 with High-A Charlotte where he batted .235 with two homeruns. Jefferies will likely start 2012 with the Double-A Jacksonville Suns in 2012.
