It’s a Small World Part 2

I hope everyone had a very merry Christmas, I know I did.  I got a sweet windbreaker pullover jacket with a new Marlins logo on the chest.  I also got a new Miami Marlins logo ornament and felt pennant.  I had a very Marlins Christmas.  Anyway, I hope you all enjoyed my previous post.  Today I will continue with my second encounter with an extended member of the Marlin family.

A few weeks back our neighbors whom we are good friends with invited us to accompany them to see their daughter perform in a holiday ice skating recital.  Of course I was wearing my new Marlins hat that I found at the Mall right after Thanksgiving.

After the recital was over, a gentleman came up to me asking where I got my hat.  Of course I’m thinking, cool, he wants one, score another Marlins fan in the Atlanta area.  So I tell him I found it at Lenox Mall in Buckhead and he proceeds to tell me that he’s a scout for them and doesn’t even have a hat yet.  WOW!  All the gin joints in all the world and I meet a scout for the Marlins at an ice skating rink in Kennesaw, Georgia.  Turns out his daughter was also in the holiday performance and he lives nearby.  Crazy thing is that my daughter was in dance with a little girl whose parents had mentioned to me a while ago that they lived next to a Marlins scout.  Yes, this was the same Marlins scout.  Small world indeed.  I went on to tell him that I write for the Marlins here at Marlin Maniac and he immediately went to the site on his phone and started reading some of the articles.

He told me his name was Carmine, an easy name to remember for anyone like myself that plays Gears of War.  I had so many questions for Carmine that my head was spinning out of control and I was desperately trying not to make a complete and total ass of myself at the same time, not easy for me to do.  Carmine is from New York and so I asked him how he became a scout and he told me he had been a coach and an opportunity presented itself to become a scout and he took it.  He is the Marlins scout for Georgia, Tennessee, and Alabama and he goes to high schools and colleges to scope out talent.  WAY COOL!

So Carmine if you are reading this it was an absolute pleasure to meet you and your family and I’m sure we’ll run into each other again sometime in the near future.

That’s it for this week my Marlins faithful.  I wish you all a happy and safe New Year.

Go Marlins!!!!
