Don’t Forget Hanley..
The Miami Marlins have a new man in town. He is also the clubs new short stop. When rumors swirled around the web that Jose Reyes was a priority for the fish, all eyes went to Hanley Ramirez. Ramirez, the Marlins star shortstop holds a number of accolades. (Rookie of the year, 3x All-Star, 2x Silver Slugger Winner, 30-30 club member) Without any doubt, Hanley is a VERY talented ball player and is considered top 10 in the game when he is on his groove. Disregarding last year’s woes, I can understand the recent frustration shown by Hanley. When the news of [...]
Why Avoiding Pujols is a Blessing in Disguise
The Miami Marlins stayed busy during the winter meetings, but most of the discussion came over an irrelevant event: Signing Albert Pujols. At times it seemed the Fish were on the brink of inking the superstar, but it seemed there was always a hurdle to overcome. Regardless, the organization made it very clear they wanted Albert Pujols in Miami. Offering a 10 year, 200+ million dollar contract, Jeffrey Loria made it known that he could spend money with the best in the business. However the strict trade clause rule along with the constant battle between the Cardinals and Angels made [...]
New York Yankees Off season Outlook, with Ricky Keeler
So we continue out off-season outlook series today. Last time we did this, I interviewed Carlos Collazo, of Tomahawk. Today we will continue by interviewing Ricky Keeler of Yanks Go Yard. The Miami Marlins had become the New York Yankees of this off-season. That was of course until the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim stole the show by signing Albert Pujols and C.J. Wilson away from the Marlins. Here is a look at our interview. You can follow Rick on twitter: @rickinator555
Marlins looking to extend Stanton?
According to Joe Cappozi of the Palm Beach Post, the Miami Marlins next signing target is one of their own. That’s right the Marlins are going to soon discuss a contract extension with budding super star Mike Stanton. The Marlins obviously see Stanton as a staple of the franchise moving forward. This would be a perfect time to extend Stanton, before his stock reaches its highest, and he gets even more expensive to extend. I will have more on this topic on Monday.
The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have landed the two biggest players left on the free agent market. They landed the top hitter available in Albert Pujols. Pujols signed a 10-year deal worth north of $250 million. The Miami Marlins top offer was believed to be 10-years $220 million. Bob Nightengale of USA Today says the Marlins offered ten years and $275MM. If Nightengale is correct, the Marlins offer would have tied the largest contract in baseball history with Alex Rodriguez. If you ask me, the Marlins lucked The Angels also signed another Marlins target, C.J. Wilson. His deal is reportedely worth 5-years $75 million. [...]
Marlins sign Buehrle, more to come?
The Miami Marlins have announced that they have signed left-handed pitcher Mark Buehrle to a four-year, $58 million deal. This comes on the heels of the Marlins pulling out of the Albert Pujols sweepstakes and turning their attention to starting pitching. Buehrle, 32, will join a starting rotation of Josh Johnson, Ricky Nolasco and Anibal Sanchez. However, reports late Wednesday night surfaced that the Marlins may in fact might not be done, as they may be the favorite to add another pitcher in lefty C.J. Wilson. The 31-year-old California native will give the Marlins a rotation to compete with fellow [...]
A Fan’s Reflections on the Winter Meetings (so far)
I’m sure I was not alone in my skepticism of the Marlins’ plans to make a splash in the free agent market this offseason, particularly at the Winter Meetings. As of the time I am writing this, the team has signed shortstop Jose Reyes to a six year, $106 million deal. Current shortstop Hanley Ramirez will, if things go as planned, make the jump to third base. Closer Heath Bell has been signed to a three year, $27 million contract. After a day of on and off meetings, the status of the Marlins’ push to get Albert Pujols remains unknown. [...]
1997 vs 2003: First Baseman
Welcome to the second segment of 1997 vs 2003. Today we take a look at the two first baseman of the Florida Marlins World Champion teams, Jeff Conine and Derrick Lee. Jeff Conine, also known around Miami as “Mr. Marlin”. Conine started his major league career with the Kansas City Royals and was selected by the Florida Marlins in the 1993 expansion draft. Conine is the only player that appeared on both World Series teams for the Marlins. Conine’s most productive season with the Marlins and of his career came in the 1995 season. That season also saw Conine winning [...]
Marlins Interested in “King” Albert?
You have surely heard the rumors by now. The Miami Marlins are not satisfied enough with the signings of Heath Bell and Jose Reyes. No, the Marlins want to become the New York Yankees of the South. People doubted the Marlins when they said they would make a big free agent splash. They already made their splash, and now someone has to eat a kitten. If you are still clueless about what I am talking about, or you live under a rock. The Marlins have been reportedly pushing very aggressively to sign Albert Pujols to their already talented team. If you are still in [...]
