Hall of Fame catcher Gary Carter dies at age 57

Some sad news to pass along. Yesterday at 4:10 PM ET, Hall of Fame catcher Gary Carter passed away. Carter had been battling brain cancer since May, was just 57 years old.

His daughter, Kimmy Bloemers, wrote in an online journal shortly after his death.

I believe with all my heart that dad had a STANDING OVATION as he walked through the gates of heaven to be with Jesus. He is now in God’s Hall of Fame

Not just known for his baseball, Carter also will be remembered for the Gary Carter Foundation, which raised more than $620,000 to aid children. The foundation was very successful.

Gary Carter of course, was a major reason the 1986 New York Mets won the world series.

Mr. Carter does have a Marlins connection, if you were wondering. From 1993-1996, Carter was the Marlins TV color commentator. He then passed the torch to his good friend and neighbor, Tommy Hutton.
