The Miami Marlins announced that Juan Carlos Oviedo is out indefinitely with an elbow sprain. Specifically, a sprain of the Ulnar Collateral Ligament (UCL). The team has not released any other details, nor have they speculated on a return date.
Oviedo would have been available to the Marlins next Monday, on the completion of his removal from the MLB restricted list after last years’ immigration problem.
A popped UCL means that Oviedo could be facing Tommy John surgery, which would put him out of commission for a year.
