Phillies/Marlins: Series Finale

All-star pitcher Cole Hamels squares off against Nathan Eovaldi in an afternoon game at Marlins Park today. In the 18 games this season, the record is 9-8 (Phils). Hamels is having a banner year, and Eovaldi has been pitching well. The key to Marlins pitching in this game rests in the bullpen. Again.

Philly first baseban Ryan Howard has DL’ed himself again, dropping a lead pipe on his big toe.  He broke the toe, and ended his season in the process.

The Miami chapter of the BBWAA has handed out a few awards to Marlins: Giancarlo Stanton is the team MVP, and Donovan Solano is the Rookie of the Year.  Jose Reyes was awarded the Charlie Hough “Good Guy” award, and Justin Ruggiano has been named “Mr. Marlin.” Congratulations to all.

Stanton has come back strong after his intercostal injury, notching home runs 35 and 36 in the last two games. Both shots wound up in the Budweiser bar in left field, further indication that maybe the fences aren’t actually too deep. At least not for Stanton.
