Down on the Farm Report for the Miami Marlins: June 27th:

The Gulf Coast Marlins and Batavia Muckdogs were postponed due to rain, the Zephyrs dropped back below .500, the Suns were embarrassed, and the Hammerheads enjoyed a strong offensive showing on Thursday night.

Triple-A:

New Orleans Zephyrs (40-41) @ Round Rock Express (46-35)

Loss 6-1

Jake Smolinski, LF: 3-for-4

Donovan Solano, 2B: 1-for-4, 2B (2), SO

Jared Rogers, SP: 2.0 IP, 6 H, 6 ER, 2 BB, 2 SO, HR

Rob Waite, RP: 2.0 IP, H, 3 SO

The Express were able to jump on Jared Rogers early and ran away with this one, as starter Josh Lindblom shutdown the Z’s lineup. On the bright side, Smolinski picked up three hits on the day and raised his season batting average to .290.

Double-A:

Jacksonville Suns (40-36) @ Mobile BayBears (43-35)

Loss 9-3

Jake Marisnick, CF: 0-for-3, SO

Zack Cox, 3B: 1-for-3, 2 RBI, BB

Jay Jackson, SP: 5.0 IP, 9 H, 6 ER, BB, 4 SO, 2 HR

Edgar Olmos, RP: 1.0 IP, 2 H, BB, SO

Jay Jackson got roughed up for four runs in the first inning, but was able to settle in and have a decent start. That was until the fifth inning when he surrendered two more runs. Overall, Jackson allowed six runs on nine hits and dug the Suns a deep hole they were never able to climb out of. The Suns collected just five hits in the game.

High Class A:

Fort Myers Miracle (48-27) @ Jupiter Hammerheads (40-36)

Win 11-2

Brent Keys, LF: 3-for-5, 2 RBI, 2 R

Austin Barnes, DH: 2-for-3, 2 R, RBI, BB, SO

Jose Urena, SP: 6.0 IP, 5 H, R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 6 SO

James Nygren, RP: 2.0 IP, H, 2 SO

Behind a three hit day for Brent Keys and a strong start from Jose Urena, the Hammerheads were able to win their third straight game, hammering the Miracle. Urena was impressive once again, striking out one of the top prospects in baseball, Byron Buxton twice. Since giving up five runs on eight hits to the St. Lucie Mets, Urena has surrendered just five earned runs on 22 hits in 31 innings of work.

Low Class A:

Delmarva Shorebirds (35-40) @ Greensboro Grasshoppers (36-40)

Win 9-6 (F 12 Innings)

Matt Juengel, DH: 3-for-4, 2B (13), 2 R

Blake Barber, 2B-LF: 2-for-5, HR (1), 3 RBI, 2 R, 2 SO

Ramon Del Orbe, SP: 6.0 IP, 8 H, 5 ER, 2 BB, 3 SO, HR

Chipper Smith, RP: 2.0 IP, BB, 3 SO

The fans in attendance at this game were treated to a high scoring affair, extra innings, and a walk-off home run. Cannot really ask for much more in a baseball game. Blake Barber hit a walk-off three run home run in the bottom of the twelfth inning to lift the Grasshoppers to their 36th win of the season.
