Down on the Farm Report for the Miami Marlins: July 1st:

Only one Marlins affiliate was able to play a full game, as rain shortened or postponed every other game. The Z’s lost in extra innings, Adam Conley had a deceptively solid start, and Justin Nicolino continues to pitch well.

Triple-A:

New Orleans Zephyrs (41-44) @ Omaha Storm Chasers (37-47)

Loss 1-2

Kyle Jensen, RF: 0-for-5, 4 SO

Joe Mahoney, 1B: 1-for-5, 2B (4), 2 SO

Matt Neil, SP: 5.2 IP, 6 H, R, 2 BB, 5 SO

Chris Hatcher, RP: 2.0 IP, 3 H, ER, 2 BB, 2 SO

Not much good can come out of only picking up four hits in a game and striking out 19 times. Those types of games usually lend to blowouts, the Z’s beat that logic, but still lost the game. Kyle Jensen struck out four times in this game and his average in AAA dipped to .214.

Double-A:

Pensacola Blue Wahoos (32-50) @ Jacksonville Suns (42-38)

Loss 3-4 (Final 6 innings, rain)

Jake Marisnick, CF: 1-for-2, BB, R

Mark Canha, 1B: 1-for-3, 2 RBI, R

Adam Conley, SP: 5.1 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 4 SO

Conley was dominant through his firs three innings, but did not have his usual control in this fourth inning. This combined with a costly error by Jacob Realmuto in the fourth inning led to a Blue Wahoos 4-3 win, despite the Suns jumping out to an early 3-0 lead.

High Class A:

Charlotte Stone Crabs (35-42) @ Jupiter Hammerheads (40-37)

Win 5-0 (Final 7 innings, rain)

Isaac Galloway, CF: 2-for-3, 2B (21), 2 R, RBI

Wilfredo Gimenez, DH: 2-for-3, RBI

Justin Nicolino, SP: 5.1 IP, 3 H, 2 BB, 7 SO

Nick Wittgren, RP: 1.0 IP, H

In a rain shortened game, Justin Nicolino had his best start of the season, striking out a season high of seven hitters in his 5+ innings of work. Nicolino is proving that he should be ready for a promotion to the Sourthern League in the very near future. Issac Galloway collected his 21st double of the season.

Low Class A: Greensboro Grasshoppers
Game postponed

Short-Season: Batavia Muckdogs
Game postponed

Rookie: GCL Marlins
