Miami has gotten their offseason underway. The big ticket item that we are keeping an eye on is Jose Abreu, the free agent from Cuba whom just recently defected. He projects to provide a bat with some big power, something that the Marlins desperately need. Stay tuned to updates regarding his workouts and status.
Here are Marlins stories from around the web:
The Miami Marlins shook up the front office in the beginning of the week when the organization fired president of baseball operations Larry Beinfest. Miami promoted Dan Jennings to replace him. This ended the ties between Beinfest and owner Jeffrey Loria after trying it out for one more season.
We already discussed the Miami Marlins and their terrible offense in the 2013 season, but it is important to put the team’s performance in context. As mentioned, the 2012 Marlins were also bad on offense, but the 2013 crew was historically bad. Very few times do you actually get to say something occurred a historic pace, but the Fish failed to score runs at quite a historic pace.
It has been noted how small the Miami Marlins payroll will be for the 2014 season. It has also been noted how the Marlins are showing interest in hot free agent defector Jose Abreu. Abreu is someone that literally every team in MLB has looked at and at least several of them are really interested in. One of the more interested teams is the Marlins but there is doubt that they will do anything because of the lack of funds flowing from the owner.
