Marlins Way: Andrew Heaney Dominating Arizona Fall League

The Miami Marlins first round pick from 2012 is having a strong showing in the Arizona Fall League. Heaney has made three starts so far and owns a 2.94 ERA, with four walks and 11 strikeouts in 10 2/3 innings. Opponents are hitting just .231 off of him.

Heaney is coming off of a strong campaign in 2013, posting a 0.88 ERA and a 2.60 FIP in 61 2/3 High-A innings. He also posted a 2.94 ERA and a 3.41 FIP in 33 2/3 Double-A innings.

If I were to guess right now, I’d envision Heaney making the Marlins rotation out of spring training. Currently, the team has Jose Fernandez, Nathan Eovaldi, and Henderson Alvarez as locks for the rotation. Heaney would be in competition with Jacob Turner and a few others for the final two spots in the rotation.

Miami Marlins Season Review: Starting Pitcher Grades (1 Of 3)Chris Logel

Now that we have finished grading the position players for Miami, we will turn our focus to the pitching staff. As disappointing as Marlins’ hitters were during the 2013 season, I could say just the opposite about the young stable of arms the Marlins sent out to the hill. Each day we have focused on handing out grades to two different players based on position, and we will continue that trend with the pitching staff. I will submit grades for two pitchers and you can decide whether or not you agree with those grades in the comments below. Remember, I am handing these out based on reasonable expectations for each player heading into the season. Today we will review Jose Fernandez and Tom Koehler.

Today In Marlins History: October 25, 2003 World Series WinAndy Salgado

The year 2003 was a big year for me. I graduated from high school, moved out of the house, got a job that I’ve been at for 10 years now, and started college where I would meet my wife. But on this day 10 years ago something else big happened… the Marlins beat the New York Yankees 2-0 to claim their 2nd World Series. It really was a good year.
