Barry Jackson, a writer for the Miami Herald, has reported that the Marlins have expressed interest in free agent catcher Dioner Navarro.

"The Marlins have expressed interest in free agent catcher Dioner Navarro, 29, a switch-hitter who hit .300 with 13 homers and 34 RBI in 89 games for the Cubs last season. The Marlins would like to add an offensively gifted catcher to complement defensively skilled backup Jeff Mathis."

Here at Marlin Maniac we have already graded the free agent catchers and Dioner Navarro received a pretty favorable grade, and a decent possibility of the Marlins adding him. I think this is one of the better options on the free agent market. I knew we never had a chance at signing Brian McCann, for numerous reasons, and really Jarrod Saltalamacchia is very unlikely as well.

I was hoping to get Carlos Ruiz but after the Phillies significantly over-payed him, he is no longer an option. I am pretty high on Navarro, really my only concern is his inconsistency. Marlins’ catchers really struggled from the plate last year and Navarro would certainly provide an ample bat from behind the dish. He will also come at a discount due to his inconsistency from year to year.

I like this potential move and am hoping the Marlins can complete a deal with Navarro, but I want to know what you think. Do you think that Navarro would be a good pickup for the Marlins?
