With the Miami Marlins making their signing of former Pirates first baseman Garret Jones official earlier today, it’s become obvious that the team is prepared to deal incumbent first baseman Logan Morrison shortly and a trade is imminent:

According to CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman, the market for Logan Morrison currently includes the Brewers, Rays, Blue Jays, and Pirates.

The hottest rumor at this point seems to be an in-state trade between the Rays and Marlins. The Rays could offer the Marlins a package built around utility infielder Sean Rodriguez.

Rodriguez, who is known to be a lefty killer, could form the right handed side of a potential platoon at third base for the Marlins, as they continue to scour the market for a left handed hitting third baseman. The team has plans on doing the same with Jones at first baseman, as he has struggled in his lifetime against left handed pitching.

The Rays are in search of a first baseman to fill the spot vacated by former Dodger James Loney.
