Welcome to the Greatest Moments in Marlins History. Today we are taking you back in time to the 2002 season. Not many fans give this season much thought. It’s the year before the Marlins won the World Series and we finished the season 4 games behind .500; however there was a silver lining in that season. For moment 81 we bring you Kevin Millar’s 25 game hitting streak!

The streak began on August 24, 2002 when Kevin came up to bat in the first inning and smacked a single into right field off of San Diego Padres pitcher Brian Lawrence. The Marlins would go on to win the game 8-4. No one thought this would be the start of something magical. From that moment on Kevin was a hitting machine. Out of the 25 games he had 18 multi hit games! He even went 4-5 in a game against the Atlanta Braves on September 14, 2002. Four days after that game, the streak came close to ending when Kevin going into the bottom of the 9th was 0-3; but on a 3-1 count Kevin singled to right field. The streak wouldn’t last much longer. On September 20 Kevin went 0-3 to end the streak at 25 games.

Kevin put on an amazing streak and it keeps fans from forgetting our 2002 season. Join me next time as we continue counting down to Opening Day!
