According to multiple reports, Giancarlo Stanton and the Miami Marlins have agreed to a 1 year contract worth 6.5 million dollars for the 2014 season. This agreement will prevent the two sides from meeting in front of an arbitrator to decide Stanton’s upcoming compensation. Juan Rodriguez reported on the signing.

It seems that the Marlins were also concerned about Stanton’s injury history, as they included a plate appearance bonus if he reaches 600. Ken Rosenthal reported the incentive.
Stanton gets $6.5M from #Marlins, plus $100K for 600 PAs. Two sides avoid arbitration – a coup, considering their contentious history.

I have to admit, considering that both sides were able to avoid an arbitration hearing at this point in their journey together, I am fairly impressed. This is a good sign for the Marlins fans that are hoping that Stanton becomes the first player with his talent to spend his career in Miami. If they are able to work out a deal like this, there is hope for future contract negotiations.
