Marlins Way: Miami Interested In Jeff Baker

CBS is reporting that the Miami Marlins are among the teams interested in acquiring Jeff Baker. Baker is a utility player who could provide the Marlins with depth at the corner infield positions. Like newly acquired Garrett Jones, Baker has posted significant splits in his career, hitting much better against left-handed pitching. Baker could be an option to platoon with Garrett Jones at first base.

It seems like the Marlins are acquiring a bunch of spare parts and cast-offs to try to cobble together a lineup that is capable of hitting. Unfortunately, history says that this method rarely works. Miami will have an interesting spring training as they weed through the potential talent, and hopefully they are able to find some diamonds in the rough.

MLB Rumors: Marlins have inquired about free agent Ervin Santana | Ehsan Kassim

The longer a free agent sits on the market, the more likely his asking price lowers and that opens the door for more teams to show interest in said free agent. This could be the case with the recent rumor from MLB Daily Dish’s Chris Cotillo that the Marlins are interested in free agent starting pitcher, Ervin Santana:
