With all this talk about Jose Fernandez and his torn UCL, let’s look at something positive when it comes to the 2013 Rookie of the Year. On May 13, 2014 MTV2 Off the Bat from the MLB Fan Cave featured Jose. The segment featured Andrew Schultz spending a day with Jose during the off season getting him a custom suit. After all, everybody needs a suit. So suit up and let’s recap how the day went.

When Andrew introduced Jose the ROY was dressed to the nine to begin with. He wore his Kanye West top and Gucci jeans and was already stylin’. The interview started while Jose was getting measured and Andrew asked him when he came over from Cuba. Maybe if FOX’s All-Star broadcast team talked about the 6th inning rookie pitcher instead of talking about Jason Grilli’s beard, Andrew might have known Jose’s story. Sorry, I’ve really got to let that go.  Andrew was impressed with how well Jose spoke English since he only knew Spanish when he came over. Andrew even made a joke saying that “he spoke good English.” I think it’s he spoke English well. Jose grabbed a red blaze and said “this is coming with me to Miami.” Andrew asked about the All-Star game (ok how am I supposed to drop this if they keep bringing it up?)  Jose said it was an honor and remembered how when he walked into the hotel he met Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder and they told him “that they were going to have fun, kid.” Jose sure had fun that game. How do you know you’ve made it? When you have someone tying your bow tie for you, like Jose had. Great Segment!

All I can say now is get well Jose and don’t rush back too soon. You want to make sure you are fully healed, because you still have a great career ahead of you. Until next time… Let’s Go Marlins.
