On May 24, 2014 the Marlins had Cuban Heritage Night at Marlins Park. Like last year’s Cuban Heritage Night, I had to attend. This quite possibly is one of the best promotions the Marlins have.

The Marlins throw a lot of Heritage Nights throughout the season. So far we have had Puerto Rican and Cuban night, with Jewish, Venezuelan, Colombian, Dominican, and Hispanic night still to come. Check them out at the Marlins website, and if the rest are anything like Cuban night, it is something definitely worth seeing.

The day started at 3 pm with Carter Capps signing autographs in the Marlins store. Last year we had Livan Hernandez and Jose Fernandez, but I don’t have a Capps signature yet so this was a plus for me. Then it was time to go into the Park and get my promotional item. Last year the Marlins gave Café Cubano espresso mugs, which I still use. Since you can’t give the same item 2 years in a row, this year they gave out a Cuban themed Marlins cap! For those who don’t know me, I love Marlins caps. I have well over 50 in my collection (a different hat for every day of the month!). I am also very proud of my Cuban Heritage so I loved the hat and think it was a great idea.

Then there was the Cuban section. This section was hot! They had a live band, fans brought noise makers, and the fans were constantly cheering! It helped that the Marlins won that game, but regardless there was never a dull moment in our section. After the game there was a concert in the West Plaza by Gente de Zona. If you thought it was crazy inside the Park, it was crazier outside during the concert. Fans were cheering, singing along, and when Jose Fernandez hit the stage the place erupted. All in all it was a fun day.

I highly recommend that if you are anywhere near Miami go check out their other Heritage nights. It is truly an experience to enjoy. Until next time… Let’s Go Marlins!
