At this time, elbow injuries are the last thing Miami Marlins fans want to hear about.
They have already claimed the season and more for their ace, Jose Fernandez. On Tuesday, the elbow injury struck again, as the Marlins placed right handed reliever Carter Capps on the 15-day disabled list with an elbow strain.
The good news?
The Marlins don’t suspect that Capps will need to have elbow surgery:
“He’ll be down for an extended period of time and start building back up, and see where we’re at,” said Redmond, who didn’t know if the MRI showed any evidence of a tear to the ulnar collateral ligament.
The Marlins acquired Capps in an off-season deal with the Seattle Mariners. The trade sent Logan Morrison up north. Morrison is currently on the DL with a hamstring injury.
In Keith Law’s latest mock draft for the 2014 MLB Draft, he has the Miami Marlins opting for Cuban starting pitcher Carlos Rodon with the second pick in the draft.

In the Miami Marlins’ version of the classic “Casey at the Bat,” the protagonist is Clutch Casey rather than Mighty Casey.
Christian Yelich didn’t know Veronika Weiss, one of the victims in Friday’s shooting rampage at the University of California-Santa Barbara.
Marlins top prospect Andrew Heaney pitched six shut-out innings as the New Orleans Zephyrs defeated the Round Rock Express in a rain shortened 7 inning contest at The Dell Diamond. The Z’s have shutout their opponent in back to back games, for the first time since last July 11 and 12 at Oklahoma City.
Here on Marlin Maniac:
As the Miami Marlins get ready to play on another rough road trip starting this afternoon, we reached out to the editor of District on Deck, Pablo Roa, to get some insight on a team surprisingly trailing the Marlins in the NL East, the Washington Nationals. DoD is one of the great Fansided sites, and they specialize in covering the Nationals. Pablo was kind enough to answer some questions that we had about the Nationals. Here was our conversation:
It might seem counterintuitive to say that Garrett Jones is getting victimized and Mike Redmond should take him out of his misery, he does currently have a .281/.351/.509 triple slash line with 8 HR and .369 wOBA. He has been key to powering the Marlins unlikely power surge in 2014.
Step one of the recovery from his Tommy John Surgery is complete for Jose Fernandez.
