Today the Miami Marlins faced Atlanta Braves for the final game of their 3 game series. The Braves won the first 2 games, how did the Marlins fair in game 3? Welcome to this week’s edition of The Good, The Bad, and The Bullpen. Let’s start off with the quick recap- The Good: Marcell Ozuna and Nathan Eovaldi; The Bad: The Marlins Lost; and The Bullpen: Steve Cishek. With that out of the way, let’s jump into the main recap.

The Good:

Nathan started the game off great, going 1-2-3 in the first 2 innings. He faultered in the 3rd by giving up 2 runs, but then threw shutout ball all the way up to the 9th inning. Only once did a Braves runner get to 2nd after the 3rd inning when Nathan was pitching. Nathan had some help at the plate and in the field from Ozuna. Ozuna blasted a 2 run homer in the 2nd to give the Marlins a 2-0 lead. In the 7th Ozuna stole a hit from Chris Johnson on a sliding catch in center. Unfortunately, those 2 runs and 8 innings of pitching weren’t enough for the Marlins.

The Bad:

The Marlins would go on to lose the 4-2. This would complete the sweep for the Braves and give a Marlins opponent their first sweep of the season in Marlins Park.

The Bullpen:

The Marlins pen has not been so lights out recently. With the game tied in the 9th the Marlins called on Cishek to give the Marlins a chance to win it in the 9th. Unfortunately, Evan Gattis got a hold of one with a runner on base and gave the Braves a 2 run lead. This gave Cishek his second loss of the season. On the bright side the Marlins today traded for Bryan Morris from the Pirates to help the pen this season.

Next up for the Marlins is the Citrus Series starting on Monday. Two games will be played in Miami and two will be in Tampa. Keep cheering on our fish. Let’s Go Marlins!
