MLB All-Star Game: Henderson Alvarez Named an All Star Replacing Jordan Zimmerman

Despite his rough outing last night, Henderson Alvarez has still had  a fantastic season up to this point. According to Juan C. Rodriguez, his efforts are being recognized.

It’s great to see the Marlins have more than one All Star this season, because they certainly have a few players that could have made the team if they played in bigger markets. It was also announced that Alvarez will be replacing the Nationals’ Jordan Zimmerman, who will miss the game due to injury.

Alvarez’s spot on the team is certainly justified; after last night’s shelling the 24 year old still owns a 2.63 ERA on the season, good for 6th best in the National League. He’s been an excellent source of consistency for this up and down Marlins team, shown by his league leading 3 complete games. Hopefully the break will help them regain focus and have a strong second half on the back of their two All Stars.

The Marlins now boast two all star starters under the age of 25, the future looks bright for this young staff. Finally Marlins fans have a lot to look forward to during the All Star break, let’s enjoy it while we can.
