Steve Cishek Named Co-NL Player of the Week

In case the Miami Marlins series does not go as planned against the Washington Nationals, starting tonight, the Marlins might become sellers at the July 31st trading deadline. If that is the case, the Marlins could make their closer Steve Cishek available in a trade.

After the week Cishek had, the Marlins may not have a better opportunity to cash in. Cishek was named the NL Co-Player of the week, sharing the honors with the Mets’ Jacob deGrom.

For the season, Cishek owns a 3.38 ERA and a much more impressive 2.21 FIP. He has collected 26 saves in 29 chances, after recording 34 in 36 chances last season.

He may not be apart of that elite closer group with Craig Kimbrell, but he has been about just as impressive as any closer the past two seasons. If the Marlins are forced to become sellers in the coming days, they should cash in on Cishek while his name is hot.
