Miami Marlins Game Preview: Marlins and Mets Open 4 Game Series

The start of the season wasn’t what the Miami Marlins and their fans expected it to be like. After an exciting off-season, the Marlins had high hopes and expectations going into 2015. However the start of the season was very ugly for the Fish.

The Miami Marlins started the season by getting swept by the Atlanta Braves in a 3 game series. The Marlins faced the Rays next and lost that series as well. That dropped them to 1-5 after 6 games. The Marlins, in the third series of the season, got some revenge, taking two of three from the Braves. That was the Marlins first series win of the season.

The Miami Marlins (3-6) will open a four game series against their division rival, the New York Mets (6-3). The Marlins will be sending out Jarred Cosart, who is 0-1 on the season, on Thursday night.

Cosart was originally projected to be the Marlins second starter going into Spring Training. A blister on his throwing hand and being subjected to an investigation by the MLB for allegations of gambling dropped him down in the pecking order, to the fifth slot in the rotation. The MLB eventually found no conclusive evidence that Cosart was betting on baseball. He was however fined betting with an illegal bookie.

Cosart’s first start of the year came vs the Rays, where he pitched 6 strong innings, only allowing one run on three hits.

Good news for the Marlins going into the game is that Christian Yelich has returned from his back injury. He missed two out of three games in Atlanta. It is believed that Yelich hurt his back when he made an outstanding catch in game one of the Braves series, robbing Cameron Maybin of a hit.

The Marlins also made a roster move today sending Carter Capps back down to Triple A and activating David Phelps off the Paternity list.

The Marlins lineup will tonight vs the Mets will be

  9. Jarred Cosart P

Realmuto, the Marlins top hitting prospect, will be making his second straight start in place of Jarrod Saltalamacchia.

The Mets will be sending out Dillon Gee vs the Marlins tonight. Gee has been the lone Mets starting pitcher who hasn’t preformed will so far in the 2015 campaign. In his only start he went 5 innings, giving up 5 runs on 8 hits, which brought his ERA up to 9.00.

The Mets, who are off to a solid 6-3 start, will lineup like this today.
