Good morning, Marlin Maniac readers and welcome to Morning Catch, the daily morning news and notes column from MarlinManiac.com about your Miami Marlins.

In not so surprising news to everyone but the Miami Marlins, Henderson Alvarez suffered a setback with his shoulder earlier this week. Alvarez has been on the disabled list a total of 4 times with shoulder related issues, in his 3 seasons with the Miami Marlins.

And then you add-on the fact Alvarez has reportedly been pitching with a 90% torn UCL in his elbow, he seems like a ticking time bomb for bad news for the Marlins franchise and their fans.

We’ll know more about Alvarez’s shoulder and if he’ll need surgery on Monday, when he meets with the infamous Dr. James Andrew, according to Joe Frisaro of Marlins.com

My biggest fear is that if Alvarez does indeed need surgery on his shoulder, is if he’ll ever pitch another game in a Marlins uniform again. Alvarez collected $4 million in his first go-around in arbitration this past off-season. He’ll be arbitration eligible two more times before he can become a free agent after the 2017 season.

This is something to keep an eye on.

Miami Marlins trade rumors: Derek Dietrich drawing interest – Scott Gelman, Fishstripes

Miami is fond of Derek Dietrich but he might be dealt soon. Although he has not consistently been mentioned in trade rumors, Dietrich is drawing a notable amount of interest from teams who view him as a second or third baseman, according to FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal.

Dietrich, 26, was acquired by the Marlins in the deal that sent Yunel Escobar to Tampa Bay. The Marlins viewed him as a potential starting second baseman when he was added, however defensive struggles and inconsistent production have led the Marlins to consider other alternatives. Miami traded for Dee Gordon to play second base and have Martin Prado to play at third. (Read More Here)

Miami Marlins: Is the team trying to delay Marcell Ozuna‘s Arbitration Clock? – Ehsan Kassim, Marlin Maniac

The Miami Marlins optioned center fielder Marcell Ozuna on July 5th, to Triple-A New Orleans to let him work on his game. Ozuna had been struggling for much of the season on offense, posting a .249/.301/.337 slash line in 322 plate appearances.

We are 20 days since the demotion for Ozuna and there is still no sight of 24-year old being called up any time soon. This despite Ozuna slashing .353/.389/.588 in 54 Triple-A plate appearances. He owns 6 doubles and 2 home runs, with an impressive .235 ISO, showing his missing power from the major leagues might just be back. (Read More Here)
