April 2014.  That’s the last time you would have had occasion to break out the brooms again this quickly after a sweeping of an opponent.

But that’s just the opportunity the Miami Marlins awarded their fans with after a 4-0 victory over the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks Thursday night at Marlins Park, running their record to three games over .500 for the first time since June 11, 2014.

Miami’s second sweep in three tries makes them winners of nine of their last ten, moving them into a tie for third place in the NL East with weekend opponent Philadelphia.

More from Marlins News

Adam Conley led the way with his second win of the season, holding Arizona hitless until the fourth inning.  Laboring in the process, he wouldn’t make it out of the sixth, but did leave the game with six strikeouts and no runs allowed.   Out of the starting pitchers who started the year in the rotation, no one is remotely close to Conley in ERA and WHIP, and his K/9 rate trails only Jose Fernandez.

Three regulars posted multi-hit nights, including Giancarlo Stanton and a surging Marcell Ozuna, but the bulk of the offense came from other quarters.  Chris Johnson chipped in with his first RBI with the Marlins, and Christian Yelich sealed matters with the only home run of a contest that featured Stanton and Paul Goldschmidt.

And now we Stat Wrap:

  • Derek Dietrich is batting .315 since Gordon’s suspension.
  • Conley’s string of 11.1 hitless innings is a Marlins SP record.
  • Conley’s line: 5.1 IP, no runs, 6 Ks.  Good enough for the win.
  • Marlins relievers tossed 3.2 scoreless innings.
  • That included Nefi Ogando‘s 2016 debut.
  • J.T. Realmuto has batted leadoff in three straight games.
  • Marcell Ozuna has a five-hame hit streak.
  • Christian Yelich already has 3 home runs: all last year he had 7.
  • David Phelps has made 10 consecutive appearances without allowing a run, giving up only four hits in that same span.
