First off, where do we get those sweet blue lettered jerseys?

But of much more importance is the fact that the Miami Marlins shutdown the Colorado Rockies for their third win in a row in a 3-0 Father’s Day victory Sunday afternoon at Marlins Park.  The win moves the club to a season best five games over .500, a mark they last reached in May of 2014, and puts them into second place in the NL East.

More from Marlins News

Of equal interest is the pitching dominance displayed over the weekend, as every Marlins pitcher not named Wei-Yin Chen has combined to limit the Rockies to just three hits so far in the series.  With 11 hits allowed overall the last three games, that’s the best stretch of Marlins pitching since May 4th-6th, 2013.  Tom Koehler was effectively wild through six innings yesterday, chucking a one hitter; Miami’s top bullpen trio came on to shut Colorado down the rest of the way.  Kyle Barraclough has the highest ERA of the three, and it stands at 2.89.

Offense wise, not much to report. Giancarlo Stanton continues to work out of his slump, and might have some extra motivation now that teammate Marcell Ozuna has surpassed him in the home run department with thirteen on the season.  Ozuna was the only multi-hit Marlin on the day, and the team outhit the visitors 8-2.

And now we Stat Wrap:

  • The Marlins combined for a two-hitter in this one.
  • Giancarlo Stanton has a three game hitting streak.
  • He also has a hit in four straight starts.
  • Tom Koehler improved to 6-6 on the season.
  • That’s his fifth straight quality start.
  • And he’s allowed more than 3 ER just once in his last TWELVE games.
  • Marcell Ozuna was, well the offense, with a 3-run homer in the sixth inning.
  • That was his 13th HR of the year, and it gives him the team lead.
  • A.J. Ramos picked up his 22nd save, and is now tied for the MLB lead.
