Did Adam Conley ever deliver.

Following five days of exhaustive bullpen workouts, the Marlins rode their top lefty for eight innings, all the way to a series split and 3-0 shutout victory over the Atlanta Braves Wednesday afternoon at Marlins Park.

More from Marlins News

The only reason this can’t be called the best start of Conley’s career is that Milwaukee game back in April when he left without having surrendered a hit in the seventh inning. He had four walks in that one though, whereas Wednesday’s affair saw a career high in innings pitched and only one free pass allowed.  The control was spot on, and the ability to serve up this type of performance when the bullpen had been so heavily used heading into a four game set against the Cubs was top-of-rotation level excellent.

Offensively, one big swing and one more milestone.  Justin Bour clubbed his 12th HR of the season, a two-run shot that ended up being the game winner.  Artist-in-residence Ichiro Suzuki chipped in career hit 2,983, and Marcell Ozuna continued his hot hitting with a 2 for 4 day at the plate.  Martin Prado, J.T. Realmuto, and Giancarlo Stanton all sat this one out.

And now we Stat Wrap:

  • Ichiro Watch: 1 for 4 day, MLB-career hit 2,983 in the books.
  • Conley’s Line: 8 IP, 0 ER, 4 H, 4 Ks, 1 BB
  • Longest game in terms of innings pitched of his career.
  • A.J. Ramos picked up his 23rd save of the season.
  • Justin Bour hit his 12th HR, and went 2 for 3.
  • Three Fish had multi-hit days, and Miami outhit Atlanta 9-6.
  • The Marlins rested three position starters; Team B batted .300 today.
  • Jeff Mathis has hits in three of his last four starts. Wow.
  • Yesterday was only the fourth time this season the Marlins used just two pitchers.  However, it was the first time Miami won the game in question, as well as the first time they used just two pitchers for nine innings of work (#1-3 on road).
