This is getting old folks.  But on the plus side, the Marlins front office got to do some easy scouting.

Before getting to that though, the Marlins frigid offense found another way to lose to the Philadelphia Phillies, capped off by a complete bullpen and defensive meltdown in a game that was scoreless through seven innings.  The sloppiest game we’ve seen in a long time finally ended, resulting in another wasted solid starting pitching performance and a 4-0 loss Monday night at Marlins Park.

More from Marlins News

The lead offender was, once again, Jeremy Hellickson.  He’s only 2-0 in four starts against the Marlins this year, and followed up last weeks 8 IP of one run ball with six one-hit innings tonight.  He’s crushed the Fish, pure and simple, and the front office is going to need documented proof they were close to sealing the deal on a much better pitcher if Hellickson doesn’t end up being that fifth starting pitcher the Marlins trade for this week.  Because more than likely, this could have been avoided.  I’ll wager a crisp high five he doesn’t make his scheduled flight home Wednesday.

Bit of a story on the Marlins side of the pitching box score as well, as the return of Jarred Cosart can absolutely not be blamed for the loss in this one.  Sure, more than five innings would have been welcome, but holding the Phillies scoreless on just three hits was a huge night for the wayward righty.

Offensively, nothing to report.  Disgusting effort, with only two hits the entire night, not to mention two fielding errors.  Giancarlo Stanton had a hit…that’s the best I can do I’m afraid.

And now we Stat Wrap:

  • Ichiro Watch: Still four hits away and counting.
  • Jarred Cosart: 5 IP, 3 H, 0 ER. Best start of the year, and second longest.
  • Fernando Rodney took the loss, surrendering a run in the 8th.
  • That run broke a scoreless tie.
  • A.J. Ramos pitched the ninth anyway, and had his worst outing of the season.
  • The Phillies had eleven runners LOB and still managed to win.
  • Tends to happen when the other team only has two hits.
  • Silver lining: No one else in the WC race played a game today.
  • Tommy Joseph came into tonight hitting .389 with 3 HR and 3 RBI against the Marlins, and proceeded to go 2 for 5 with the winning run.
