Down on the Farm Report for the Miami Marlins: May 30th:

Triple-A: Round Rock Express (30-25) @ New Orleans Zephyrs (25-29)

Win 2-1

Jake Smolinski, LF: 1-for-4, HR (3), R, RBI

Bryan Petersen, RF: 1-for-3, RBI, BB, SO

Zach Phillips, RP: 1.0 IP, H, 3 SO

Chris Hatcher, RP: 2.0 IP, H, BB, 3 SO

Jake Smolinski continues to hit well in 2013, as he belted his third home run of the season. His season line now sits at .287/.330/.471 for the season. At this point, Smolinski is lost in a crowd in the Marlins outfield depth in the minors.

Chris Hatcher continues to be a perfect example of a Quad-A player. He can get hitters out at ease in Triple-A, but struggles to get hitters out in the majors.

Double-A: Jacksonville Suns (28-24) @ Pensacola Blue Wahoos (19-34)

Loss 2-1

Christian Yelich, CF: 2-for-5, 2 2B (12), 3 SO

Zack Cox, 3B: 3-for-3, RBI, BB

Bryan Evans, SP: 5.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, BB, 4 SO

Edgar Olmos, RP: 2.0 IP, H, BB, 2 SO

Cox is starting to find his swing again after a DL stint derailed his hot start. Although Cox owns a .322/.430/.400 slash line early on, he has just six extra base hits and no home runs. Unless he starts to hit for more power, Cox will never be seen as a serious candidate for the Marlins third base role in the future.

High Class A: Jupiter Hammerheads (28-25) vs. Bradenton Marauders (21-33)

Loss 2-0

Brent Keys, CF: 2-for-4, SO

Ross Wilson, 2B: 2-for-3, SO

Justin Nicolino, SP: 5.0 IP, 3 H, BB, 6 SO

Kevin Cravey, RP: 2.0 IP, 3 H, ER, 2 BB, 2 SO

Not much good happened for the Hammerheads on offense on Friday, but Brent Keys did continue to hit. He now owns a .356/.440/.406 slash line. The only blemish on Keys’ statistics would be that he has just three extra base hits in 101 at bats.

Nicolino has continued to pitch well in 2013 after pitching another five scoreless innings and tying a season high of six strikeouts. Justin has 22 strikeouts in his last 22 innings after just striking out just 15 in his first 29 innings.

Low Class A: Greensboro Grasshoppers (24-29) vs. Delmarva Shorebirds (23-30)

Loss 7-6

Michael Main, CF: 2-for-3, RBI, 2 BB, SO

Yordy Cabrera, 3B: 0-for-3, 2 R, 2 BB, SO

Scott Lyman, SP: 5.0 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 10 SO

Miguel Fermin, RP: 0.0 IP, 3 H, 2 ER

The Grasshoppers run of three consecutive games with 10+ runs ended on Friday, as did their six game winning streak. The offense did manage to put six runs on the board, including another strong game from Michael Main.

Lyman had an interesting stat line, while he proved to be hard to hit at times, with his 10 strikeouts, the Shoebirds were able to pick up seven hits and score four runs off of him.
