Down on the Farm Report for the Miami Marlins: May 30th:
New Orleans Zephyrs (26-29) @ Iowa Cubs (24-30)
Kevin Mattison, CF: 0-for-7, 6 SO
Kevin Kouzmanoff, 1B: 4-for-7, 2 2B (5), HR (1), 4 RBI, 2 SO
A.J. Battisto, SP: 2.0 H, 7 H, 6 ER, 3 BB, SO
Rett Varner, RP: 3.0 IP, H, 5 SO
Kevin Mattison has the worst stat line I have ever seen in professional baseball. He didn’t just pick up one hat trick, but he had two. Striking out three times in a baseball game, but six is amazing. Mattison owns a .254/.302/.424 slash line. He has struck out 49 times in 127 plate appearances.
The good news is that despite Mattison’s performance, the Zephyrs were able to win again and pull within three games of the .500 mark.
Double-A: Jacksonville Suns (29-24) @ Pensacola Blue Wahoos (19-35)
Logan Morrison, 1B: 1-for-5, HR (1), 2 RBI, R
Kyle Jensen, RF: 1-for-4, HR (8), RBI, R
Adam Conley, SP: 5.2 IP, 5 H, ER, 3 BB, 6 SO
Arquimedes Caminero, RP: 2.0 IP, 2 SO
Logan Morrison hit his first homer of his rehab stint in the Suns victory on Saturday night. It was Morrison’s first extra base hit of the season and he now owns a putrid slash line of .158/.273/.237. LoMo is about a week away from joining the Marlins, so he has plenty of time for his bat to heat up.
Adam Conley enjoyed a strong start and bounced back from a rough outing his last time out. Conley lowered his season ERA to 4.39.
High Class A: Jupiter Hammerheads (28-25) vs. Bradenton Marauders (21-33)
Postponed : Rain
Low Class A: Greensboro Grasshoppers (25-29) vs. Delmarva Shorebirds (23-31)
Cameron Flynn, RF: 2-for-4, 2B (5), 2 RBI
Anthony Gomez, SS: 2-for-5, SO, R
Ramon Del Orbe, SP: 2.0 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 SO
Chipper Smith: 4.0 IP, 2 H, ER, 2 SO
The Grasshoppers picked up another win, they have now won seven of their last eight games. Anthony Gomez, the Vanderbilt product, has done a decent job in 2013 and could make a name for himself as he moves up the Marlins organization.
