Down on the Farm Report for the Miami Marlins: June 4th
Triple-A:
New Orleans Zephyrs (28-30) @ Iowa Cubs (25-32)
Kevin Kouzmanoff, 1B: 1-for-4, 2B (6), RBI
Bryan Petersen, RF: 1-for-4, 2B (15)
Jared Rogers, SP: 4.2 IP, 8 H, 5 ER, BB, 2 SO
Matt Neil, RP: 3.1 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 4 SO, 3 HR
After jumping to 1-0 lead, the Zephyrs allowed seven runs in the fifth inning and allowed the Cubs to run away with the game. With the Zephyrs struggling to keep the Cubs off the board, they never had a chance in this one.
Double-A:
Mobile BayBears (30-28) @ Jacksonville Suns (30-26)
Jake Marisnick, CF: 1-for-4, 3B (1), RBI, R, SO
Logan Morrison, 1B: 2-for-4, RBI, R
Nathan Eovaldi, SP: 4.2 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 4 BB, SO
Grant Dayton, RP: 1.1 IP, H, BB, 2 SO
Marisnick played center and led-off for the Suns with Christian Yelich still out with his lower abdominal pain. The Suns hope to have Yelich back in the lineup tomorrow. Morrison picked up two hits and drove in a key run in the victory for the Suns. With LoMo due back in the next week, the Marlins hope he can catch fire with his bat before he returns.
Eovaldi made what could be his final rehab start before rejoining the Marlins rotation. Nathan did not have his best stuff in this start, as he walked four and allowed six hits in just 4 2/3 innings. The Marlins could opt to give him one more start before calling him up.
High Class A:
Clearwater Threshers(30-25) @ Jupiter Hammerheads (29-27)
Donovan Solano, 2B: 3-for-3, RBI
Giancarlo Stanton, RF: 0-for-3
Jose Urena, SP: 6.0 IP, H, 5 SO
Nick Wittgren, 1.0 IP, 2 H, ER, 2 SO
After being named an all-star earlier in the day, Wittgren blew his second save of the season and allowed the Marauders to tie the game in the seventh inning. He has a 0.95 ERA for the season, so this is likely just a blip on the radar.
Solano, Stanton, and Joe Mahoney all continued their minor league rehab in this game. Solano picked up three hits in the game. All three are expected back within the week.
One start after going just three innings and allowing five runs on eight hits, Urena bounced back in this one and allowed just one hit in six innings of work. Urena’s up-and-down season continues, though he lowered his ERA to 4.37
Clearwater Threshers (31-25) @ Jupiter Hammerheads (29-28)
Austin Barnes, DH: 2-for-4, SO
Austin Nola, SS: 2-for-3, 2B (9)
Jake Esch, SP: 4.0 IP, 6 H, 6 ER, 2 BB, 4 SO, HR
Joseph O’Gara, RP: 2.0 IP, 4 H, ER, SO
Not much went right for the Hammerhead as they were swept in their double header with the Threshers on Tuesday night. Their loss puts them just one game above .500 for the season.
Low Class A:
Augusta GreenJackets (30-27) @ Greensboro Grasshoppers (26-30)
Jesus Solorzano, CF: 2-for-5, 2 2B (14), RBI, SO
Yordy Cabrera, 3B: 1-for-3, 2B (10), R, BB
Daniel Oliver, SP: 6.0 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, BB, 2 SO, HR
Jheyson Manzueta, RP: 1.0 IP, H
