Down On The Farm Miami Marlins Daily Report: July 13th

Triple-A:

New Orleans Zephyrs (48-49) @ Oklahoma City RedHawks (51-45)

Win 4-2

Nick Green, SS: 1-for-4, HR (4), RBI, R

Kyle Skipworth, C: 2-for-4, 2B (9), HR (4), RBI, R

Jay Jackson, SP: 6.2 IP, 5 H, R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 SO

Chris Hatcher, CL: 1.0 IP, H, ER, SO, HR, SV (26)

Green and Skipworth each hit their fourth homers of the season as the Z’s were able to win behind a strong start from Jay Jackson. The start was Jackson’s Triple-A debut, as he earned a promotion for Double-A after posting a 3.16 ERA in just under 80 innings of work.

Double-A:

Jacksonville Suns (46-44)

Postponed, Rain

High Class A:

Jupiter Hammerheads (45-44) @ Daytona Cubs (48-38)

Loss 0-8

Matt Smith, 1B: 1-for-3, 2B (1), SO

Isaac Galloway, CF: 1-for-3, SO

Josh Hodges, SP: 3.0 IP, 7 H, 8 R, 7 ER, 2 BB, 2 SO

Tyler Higgins, RP: 1.0 IP, SO

Jupiter Hammerheads (45-45) @ Daytona Cubs (49-38)

Brent Keys, LF: 1-for-3

Austin Nola, SS: 1-for-2

Justin Nicolino, SP: 6.0 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, BB, 4 SO, HR

The Hammerheads were limited to just 8 hits on the day and could not push a runner past the plate. Although Hodges got roughed up, Nicolino enjoyed another strong start for the Hammerheads. He should be earning a promotion to Double-A Jacksonville in the near future.

Low Class A:

Greensboro Grasshoppers (45-46) @ Kannapolis Intimidators (35-56)

Loss 0-6

Jesus Solorzano, DH: 1-for-4

Yefri Perez, RF: 1-for-3

Daniel Oliver, SP: 4.2 IP, 7 H, 5 ER, BB, 2 SO, HR

Mason Hope, RP: 2.0 IP, BB, 3 SO

Oliver was ineffective in his start, leading to the Intimidators taking an early lead they would never relinquish. After allowing nine earned runs in his last start, the Grasshoppers moved Hope to the bullpen and he pitched a lot more effective. It will be interesting to see if the organization decides to keep him in the bullpen going forward or gives him another opportunity to start.

New York-Penn League:

Tri-City ValleyCats (18-9) @ Batavia Muckdogs (13-12)

Loss 4-5

Scott Carcaise, DH: 2-for-4, 2 HR (2), 2 RBI, 2 R, 2 SO

Chad Wallach, C: 1-for-4, 2B (1), R

Ryan Newell, SP: 6.2 IP, 7 H, 2 R, ER, BB, 6 SO

Miguel Del Pozo, RP: 1.0 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, BB, SO, HR

The Marlins 14th round pick out of Florida Tech showed off some his power, as Carcaise went deep for the first two times in the season. The Florida native played 1B in college and will likely do the same in the Marlins organization.

Gulf Coast League:

Gulf Coast Cardinals (9-10) vs Gulf Coast Marlins (10-9)

Win 6-2

David Cruz, C: 2-for-4, HR (1), 2 RBI, 2 R, SO

Yeison Hernandez, 2B: 2-for-5, 2 RBI, SO

Domingo German, SP: 6.0 IP, 6 H, ER, BB, 4 SO

Josh Easley, RP: 3.0 IP, 3 H, R, 5 SO

The Marlins collected six runs on 10 hits on Saturday, as they defeated the Cardinals. David Cruz hit his first homer of the season and Hernandez had a multiple hit game as well. Easley struck out five hitters in his three innings of work, picking up his first save of the season.
