Jose Fernandez Snubbed at the All-Star Game by Fox

Jose Fernandez faced 3 batters in his 1 inning pitched. Those 3 batters? Dustin Pedroia, the starting second baseman of the first place Red Sox; Miguel Cabrera, the reigning AL MVP and Triple Crown winner; and Chris Davis the Home Run Leader. What did those 3 do? Strike out, pop up, and strike out! What did the Fox announcers have to day about Jose? Jose comes in and he’s 20. The whole inning they talked to Jason Grilli and his trek in baseball. Are you kidding me! Let me give you a history lesson Fox. Do you know where Jose was 5 years ago? In jail in Cuba because he was caught trying to escape Cuba. When he finally made it out of Cuba he had to save his mom from drowning on their way to America. He has given hope to Marlins fans everywhere with his great posy, ball control, speed, and his pure love of the game. What an opportunity the guys at Fox wasted to not tell the story of a great young man who is a great future star pitch of this league.

Yes I’m a diehard Marlins fan but I’m not the only one up in arms about this. The Marlins fan base on twitter feels the same way I do. Glenn Geffer, a Marlins Broadcaster, feels the same way I do.

“#Fox just ignored Jose Fernandez, the single best story in baseball. Absolutely terrible. A disgrace. Brutal.”

Also saying

“Too bad Fox ignored Fernandez’s during his 1-2-3 inning against 2 MVP’s and a guy who could win an MVP this year.”

He wasn’t the only one. Marlins fan Jessica Jensen says

“It’s terrible, but true fans always support their team.”

Marlins Fan Problems tweeted

“HOW DO YOU NOT MENTION ANYTHING, AT ALL, ABOUT FERNANDEZ’S JOURNEY TO, AND RISE TO SUCCESS IN AMERICA? NO LET’S TALK ABOUT JASON GRILLI’S BEARD”

Brendan Tobin, from The Ticket, keeps the angry tweets coming

“So disrespectful. Jason Grilli story: I have a bad leg. Jose Fernandez’s story: jumped into shark infested waters to save his mom’s life.”

Let’s end this rant with a tweet from SoFlaSportsFan:

“I get the feeling Buck & McCarver did ZERO homework on Fernandez. The Kid had the most impressive inning of the night.”

Those are just some of the angry tweets of the night.

Look I get it that the Marlins are second to last in the league, but the Jose Fernandez story needs to be told and what he has gone through to get here. Instead I get a bum leg story and a beard from Jason Grilli. Don’t get me wrong, I love Grilli, he’s keeping me alive in my Fantasy league; but I’ve heard the Fernandez story a million time and I never get tired of it, and I’m sure there are people out there that have never heard it and would be in such awe like I am. To top all that Jose had the best inning pitch in the whole game and you glaze over him. Thanks Fox. Let’s Go Marlins and Jose Fernandez!
