Down On The Farm Miami Marlins Daily Report: July 25th
Triple-A:
New Orleans Zephyrs (52-53) @ Iowa Cubs (50-55)
Nick Green, SS: 1-for-5, HR (6), R, RBI, 3 SO
Kevin Kouzmanoff, 3B: 1-for-4, RBI, BB
Doug Mathis, SP: 6.0 IP, 6 H, 2 BB, 3 SO
Chris Hatcher, CL: 2.0 IP, 4 H, ER, 3 SO
Nick Green hit his sixth home run of the season to give the Zephyrs a 1-0 lead heading into the ninth. Unfortunately, close Chris Hatcher was not able to close the game out, and blew just his second game of the season. Luckily for the Z’s, Kouzmanoff was able to pickup Hatcher and drive in the winning run in the 10th inning to move the team to just one game under .500 for the season.
Double-A:
Jacksonville Suns (50-46) @ Montgomery Biscuits (50-50)
Game Postponed
High Class A:
Jupiter Hammerheads (52-48) @ Clearwater Thresers (50-48)
Isaac Galloway, CF: 1-for-4, R, BB, 2 SO
Ryan Goetz, RF: 2-for-3, R, RBI, BB
Jake Esch, SP: 5.0 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 2 SO, 2 BB
Jose Ceda, RP: 0.2 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, SO
Ceda struggled in his rehabilitation stint with the Hammerheads, allowing three runs to the Threshers to put the game away, in a close ball game. Ceda, working his way back from Tommy John surgery, had not allowed a run in his first three rehab appearances. On the 60 day DL, Ceda can still provide a boost to the Marlins bullpen if he can recover from his most recent surgery.
Low Class A:
Greensboro Grasshoppers (48-52)
Scheduled Off-Day
New York-Penn League:
Jamestown Jammers (22-13) @ Batavia Muckdogs (17-18)
Avery Romero, 2B: 2-for-4, 2 2B (14), 3 RBI, R
Yefri Perez, CF: 3-for-5, 2 R
Ryan Newell, SP: 6.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, ER, 2 BB, 3 SO
James Wooster, RP: 0.1 IP, H, 4 ER, 3 BB
Another strong offensive game from second baseman Avery Romero had the Muckdogs well on their way to moving their record to above .500 for the season. Unfortunately, their bullpen came apart in the ninth inning and allowed seven Jammers runs to win the game.
Gulf Coast League:
Gulf Coast Marlins (11-17) @ Gulf Coast Mets (7-21)
Tony Caldwell, C: 1-for-3, 2B (3), SO
K.J Woods, LF: 1-for-3, 2B (4), 2 SO
Cody Harris, SP: 4.0 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 2 BB
Sean Townsley, RP: 2.0 IP, 2 H, 3 SO
Gulf Coast Marlins (12-17) @ Gulf Coast Mets (7-22)
Win 4-2 (Make up of 7/16)
Ryan Aper, CF: 2-for-4, HR (1), 2 R, 2 RBI, SO
Ron Miller, 1B: 1-for-2, 2B (6), BB, SO
Joel Effertz, SP: 4.1 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, BB, 4 SO, 2 HR
Tyler Kane, RP: 2.2 IP, BB, SO
The GCL Marlins were able to split their double header with the Mets, winning the makeup game by the final score of 4-2. There was not much offense in either game, as strong pitching prevailed for both sides.
