Miami Marlins Winter Meetings: Live Blog, Day 3

After a very, very slow day 2, we start day 3 on a positive note with the official announcement of the signing of Garrett Jones. This signing means that we will resume day 3 of the Logan Morrison trade watch. I personally do not believe that Morrison will be a Marlin by the time the Winter Meetings conclude, but that remains to be seen.

Monday saw the “hot stove” cranked full blast regarding the LoMo situation. Tuesday was much the opposite, as Mark Trumbo heading to Arizona seemed to dominate the headlines and any Morrison trade talk fell by the wayside. I anticipate his trade talk to resume with much more force today, as we heard reports that as many as 10 teams were interested and the offers were getting better.

The interesting thing that remains to be seen is exactly what the Marlins front office is targeting with a Morrison trade. Are they looking for immediate help? Are they looking for major league depth? Are they looking for prospects that could potentially help down the road?

I am hoping it is the latter, as I think a prospect laden haul is just the thing that the Marlins need. If we could get a solid infielder in return, it will be a huge help to our push toward the playoffs in 2 or 3 years. Any immediate help would likely be a waste.
