Welcome back to the Greatest Moments in Marlins History. Moment 109 we talked about Miguel Cabrera receiving the Silver Slugger Award as an Outfielder for the Marlins in 2005, but he did play more positions than just outfield as a Marlin. For moment 108 we take you to 2006 and Miguel’s Sliver Slugger Award at 3rd base.
Miguel became the first Marlin to win 2 Silver Slugger Awards and he did it in back to back years. Mind you this year he did it at 3rd base. Miguel’s numbers in 2005 didn’t suffer with a move to 3rd. In 158 games Miguel got 195 hits, 50 doubles, only 26 home runs (the second lowest in his career but still pretty impressive), 114 RBIs, a sensational .339 batting average, an OBP of .430, while SLG .568, and pulling an OPS of .998.
I still think that Miguel should have been voted the starter of the All-Star game that year but you win some you lose some. Miguel would go on to win 3 more Silver Sluggers, but as a Detroit Tiger. Those years in Miami he lit up the Marlins offense and always gave the fans a show day in and day out. What Silver Slugger is next? Join me tomorrow and find out.
