Welcome to the Greatest Moments in Marlins History. Let’s see, the Lou Brock Award is done, and the Silver Slugger Award is complete (with the exception of one), what can we do next? How about we switch over to offense and take a look at the Marlins who have won Golden Gloves? The Golden Glove is given to the best defensive player in the league at each position, and the Marlins do have more than a hand full of winners of this award. With moment 105 we take a look at Derrek Lee’s 2003 Gold Glove Award.
Derrek was the Marlins first baseman for our amazing season and run to win the World Series. He was not only great at bat but his defense at first base was a key to many Marlin victories too. In 155 games playing first during the season Derrek recorded 1279 Putouts, only 5 errors, 97 Assists, was part of 132 double plays, and had a Fielding Percentage of .996. What great numbers to put up at first base. Derrek would go on to win three more Gold Gloves, but 2003 would be the first one of his career, and the only one he would win with the Marlins. Join me tomorrow as we take look at another Marlin Gold Glove. Who will it be? Till next time… Let’s Go Marlins!
