Welcome back to the Greatest Moments in Marlins History. I hope you all had a great Christmas! Now let’s dive on in to Moment 95. We take you back to 2006 and Joe Giradi’s Manager of the Year Award.
2006 was a weird season for the Marlins, but we will get into that season a little later on (spoiler it’s on the list). Joe was given a 15 million dollar team to compete in the National League. Nothing was expected from this team in 2006, but don’t tell Joe that. He did everything in his power to keep this team competing for that coveted Wild Card spot- all the way up to the end of the season. Joe was almost fired by Mr. Loria in August, but kept his job for the rest of the season and was named Manager of the Year for all the great things he did as the manager of team that no one expect anything from. Side note- Joe is the only manager to win this award with a losing record.
Joe would go on to manage the Yankees and win the World Series with them in 2009, but us Marlins fans know were he got his managing beginnings from. Join me tomorrow as we jump on to another award the Marlins have won over the years as we continue to countdown the Greatest Moments in Marlins History.
Until next time… Let’s Go Marlins!
