Welcome Back to the Greatest Moments in Marlins History. For today’s moment we are going to take a look at the first Miami Marlin to win the Rookie of the Year. Moment 92 is Jose Fernandez’s 2013 Rookie of the Year Award.

What can be said about Jose’s rookie season that hasn’t already been said countless times? He pitched an amazing inning in the All-Star game, he was the spark the Marlins needed that season, he was always a pleasure to be around in the locker room, and I could go on and on about him but let’s go to the numbers. Jose recorded 12 wins (top 5 in rookies), 187 strike outs (first in rookie pitchers), 2.19 ERA (2nd in all the National League), .979 (3rd in the National League), and a WAR of 6.7 (6th in the National League). There is no doubt that Jose deserved to be Rookie of the Year this past year (unless you’re a Puig fan, then I understand). Not only did Jose get Rookie Award consideration he also finished 3rd in the CY Young voting that year too. This was really Jose’s year (as we will see with more moments to come on this list).

Three Rookie of the Year Awards down and one more to go. Join me tomorrow as we talk about the final Rookie of the Year Award won by a Marlins player. Can you figure out who it is? Find out tomorrow.
