Welcome Back to the Greatest Moments in Marlins History. Today we look at the final Rookie of the Year Award won by a Marlins player. The year is 2006 and moment 91 goes to Hanley Ramirez’s Rookie of the Year Award.

The 2006 season was the year of rookies for the Marlins. Of the 12 spots that got votes for Rookie of the Year, 6 of them were Marlins. With 3 of them being in the top 5, Hanley was the one to receive the honor of being named Rookie of the Year.

In a year that the Marlins weren’t suppose to do anything, the rookies shined- but none brighter then Hanley.

In 158 games Hanley recorded 185 hits (10th in the National League), 119 runs (5th in the National League), 46 double (7th in the National League), 11 triples (6th in the National League), 17 home runs, 59 RBIs, 51 stolen bases (3rd in the National Leagues), and a .292 batting average. These are all impressive number, and they all came from a rookie.

Well that does it for the Marlins’ Rookie of the Year awards; what a way to finish it with this impressive year by Hanley. Although Hanley’s rookie year was very impressive, there was another year that far surpassed this one. Join me next time as we finish off the awards with one more won by Hanley. Can you figure out which one (really it’s two but one stands out more then the other)? Until then… Let’s go Marlins!
