Welcome back to the Greatest Moments in Marlins History. One of my favorite parts of the game is the strikeout! That is, of course, when my team is dishing them out and not at the other end of one. That is why we are taking you back to September 30, 2009 in a game against the Atlanta Braves. For moment 69 we are looking at when Ricky Nolasco set the Marlins single game strikeout record.
September 30, 2009 was Ricky’s last game of the season and the Marlins’ 159 game. It would be a game Ricky would never forget. Nate McLouth was the first to go down in the bottom of the first and he won’t forget this game either as he struck out 3 times against Ricky. He wasn’t the only one who struck out; Ricky struck out every batter he faced in this game at least one time. He even struck out Greg Norton and Brooks Conrad who only came in for one at bat each as pinch hitters. In total, Ricky recorded 16 strikeouts- a Marlins single game record.
That wasn’t the only record Ricky broke that game. What was the other record he broke? You will just have to join us tomorrow and find out what moment 68 has in store for us fans.
